Description | But-1-ene-1,2,4-tricarboxylic acid, also known as cis-homoaconitate or (Z)-1,2,4-but-1-enetricarboxylic acid, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as tricarboxylic acids and derivatives. These are carboxylic acids containing exactly three carboxyl groups. But-1-ene-1,2,4-tricarboxylic acid is a very hydrophobic molecule, practically insoluble (in water), and relatively neutral. But-1-ene-1,2,4-tricarboxylic acid exists in all living species, ranging from bacteria to humans. |
