Metabolite Identification
Common NameD-Ribose
DescriptionD-Ribose, also known as D-ribofuranoside or ribose, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as pentoses. These are monosaccharides in which the carbohydrate moiety contains five carbon atoms. D-Ribose exists as a solid, possibly soluble (in water), and an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa) molecule. D-Ribose exists in all living species, ranging from bacteria to humans.
